Bellator Ferrum, nearing completion

Today's post is about my Reaver Titan, Bellator Ferrum.  This is a Titan from Legio Tempestus prior to and during the Horus Heresy.  Why the post now?  Well I want to take this lump of resin up to the weekender.  There is a participation game of the new Adeptus Titanicus rules on the Sunday Morning.

Ideally I would take a Warlord, but they are too far from completion.  I certainly wouldn't take the Beast, as the puny Warhound will likely die quickly in my unpracticed hands.

So I have since my last post, attached the leg and hip armours.  Painted the rear carapace and sealed the front on to the torso.  I think one more day and he's game ready.  I will still need to weather and oil wash the model later.  But I really want transfers...

On to the pictures (sorry for the quality, taken from my iPad)

Finally, Do you guys have any questions you want me to ask at the weekender?

Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves

Todays post is a completed miniature.  I've been working on this model for a number of months, since the general release in fact.  It's the first character model I've painted in a long time, and I've decided not to paint the eyes.  I just don't think I could do this (I haven't painted eyes in 10 years) without a lot of practice.  Also, I haven't painted the shield, I come back to both sheild and eyes later, but I really don't think it's necessary for the model at the model.

I've really enjoyed paint him, and I may get some other models of the character series.

On to the pictures!

More Character Builds

For today's post, I wanted to share some more builds I have completed.  These are three more Preators for some of my legions.  The left one will be for the Iron Warriors, the other two will be Death Guard.

I also picked up some more models to build.

I'll be building Nark Dreygur as a standard build (maybe do a pistol swap).  Autlon Skorr I may do a head swap as I'm not massively keen on the standard helmet.

House Makabius- January 2017 update

Today's post is the next in a series of post to record the current state of play of my armies.  The first army I have chosen is House Makabius.  This household is still under construction, and needs a fair bit of work to get it game ready.  Getting this force ready is one of my goals for the year.

This is a reasonably large force and an will weight in at around 3500 points.  On to the pictures:

Seneschal mounted in a Cerastus Knight-Acheron

Lord Scion mounted in a Cerastus Knight-Lancer

Arebelsatar mounted in a Acastus Knight-Porphyrion.  Still need to build the body and arms.  This will be happening in the next few weeks.

Knight Militant mounted in a Questoris Knight-Errant.  This is a spare body, as I am in the process of reposing a pair of legs.

Knight Militant mounted in a Questoris Knight-Paladin

Knight Militant mounted in a Questoris Knight-Paladin - still mainly in the box

Arebelsatar mounted in a Questoris Knight-Crusader will have a thermal cannon to match the 30K rules.  I do find it odd he cant have a battle cannon.

Are you painting House Makabius knights?  I'd love to seen them, link in the comments below.

Alpha Legion Praeto build

Today's post is about a build with a minor conversion I have recently completed.  I picked up the limited edition Praetor in tartarous terminator armour from eBay just before Christmas.  I really like this model except the head.  I had seen Mordian 7th's brilliant Thousand Sons version here, so I knew it was possible.

Using a spare helmeted terminator head for the Burning of Prospero set, I carefully filed and trimmed until it sat properly.  This is the result.

I'm really please with the way the build turned out.  When the weather gets warmer, this model will be undercoated and then join my painting queue.

Iron Warriors - January 2017

Today's post is about my plans for a small force of Iron Warriors.  My ultimate goal is to have at least a full tactical squad of each Space Marine Legion.  Currently I have only three models for my Iron warrior, the 2016 event praetor, a single iron circle automata, and the marine pictured below.  Over the coming months I aim to finish these models and 19 other marines to build a full tactical squad.

The scheme I'm using is:
- Paint lead belcher base coat.
- Dry brush with Iron breaker.
- Wash entire model with army paint strong tone wash.
- Paint armour trims with retributor armour.
- Wash trims with reikland fleshshade.
- Highlight trims with auric armour.
- Wash rivets and all points on the armour that would accumulate dirt with seraphim sepia.
- Paint eyes thousand sons.
- Paint eyes Arhiman Blue.
- High light with sybarite green.

And the he just needs basing!

House Makabius Knight Lancer

Today's post is about a recent addition to House Makabius, my new Cerastus Knight Lancer.  This model is initially going to fill the roll of either a back up HQ (Lord Scion), or will get stuck in as a Scion martial.  I said it before and I wail say it again, these are the best kits in the world to build.  The go together very well and it's easy to get a good pose.

I've chosen to pose this Knight on the stance of the first Forgeworld Knight Lancer.  I love the pose, and if I build a second Knight house I would be tempted to do it again.  Now on to the pictures.

Note: I have left off some of the parts, armour, banner, and shield generator, to assist painting.

So I have told you my favourite build, What was yours? Let me know in the comments.

3D print Zone Mortalis Test Wall And Mighty Empire Tile

Today's update is about 3D printing two different models.

The first model I designed in Trimble Sketchup and it took me about 45 minutes.  The print was about 5 1/2 hours, but this was in a quite high resolution and not challenging the printer speed wise.  I dare say I can get this down by an hour or so.

There are no fine details on the model as Sketchup doesn't cope well with small objects.  I'm contemplating leaving these off and maybe having a detail pack designed on another package at a later date.

The next piece has been the bane of my life.  This model which was designed by ffaat is on Thingiverse here.  This is a Mighty/Planetary Empires Tile for my blogger buddy Kaelo over at the Battle bunnies.  I've gone through about 15 tries till I printed this one.  The source file is a parametric file (meaning it's drawn mathematically rather than with lines), which I had to spend sometime understanding. Also the model didn't like the normal square infill grid, so I had to change to triangles.  So I had these and a couple of other different issues to work out, but I know what's going on now (I think).  This is the good one with the best of the rest.

Have you got a 3D printer? Thinking of getting one? Let me know in the comments below.

Legio Tempestus Warlord Update - January 2017

Today's post is the first in a series of updates on all my 30K projects, and I thought is start with the big one (and to show I'm working on it because I gave Siph Horridous of the WeeMen some stick for the time taken to paint his). I bought this Titan back in 2015 at the same time as my Reaver Titan and its sat on the back burner since then.  Recently I really started to work on the torso and here's the model at the moment.

As you can see, I've made a bit of progress 😉.  The current plan is contiune working on this model steadily through 2017, but he is not currently on the priority list.  I learnt a lot from my work on the Reaver Titan, and I will be painting all the armour panels at the same time.  So far one shoulder and one arm weapon is built as are the arms.

What are you plans for Titans in 2017?  If you are planing of working on a build I'd love to see it.  Leave details in the comments.  Also, if you have a Titan, why not join the Titan Owners Club here, it's a great central repository for over a 100 Titans.

3d Printed Thunderhawk Gunship

This is a project I'm working on.  This is actually a two phase project.  It will end up being thunderhawks for my marine forces.  The first phase is printing a model from Thingiverse found here.  It was designed by Montrano.  It's a low detail model, so will need grubbins and grebbles for finishing.  This is the current state of the model.

Phase two, which is running concurrently with phase 1, is designing a new more detailed model.  This is the current state of the 3D model.

This is a test print of the cabin door.  I was a bit tight on the measurements, so it's a tight fit across and a bit short vertically.  I'm making the adjustments and will reprint later this week.  It also shows the channels are two narrow.  I'm going to go from .2 to .5 mm.  Measuring on some marine tanks, this seems to be more like the gap gw use.

As part of the project I need is 8 predator heavy bolters (4 of each left and right side) and 2 land raider doors per gunship.  If anyone has some spare, I'll happily purchase these.

Hydra Dominatus

First up, Happy New Year!  A future post will detail my aims for the coming year, but for this post, I've been painting again.  A bout of illness and a trip to family really constrained my hobby time over the Christmas break, but I'm getting to a point where I can get the brushes out again.  That's not to say I have been idle, far from it, I've been optimising my 3D printer and doing a lot of 3D design work on a new model.

Anyway, this post is about painting, specifically Alpha Legion.  The first bike is well underway.  Still a lot of work to do.  Do I paint the base?

I've gone for a simple paint scheme, with a black inset panel to tie it in with my Sicaran.  I wasn't sure about the gold Aquila, does it work?

I've also been painting the first Autocannon armed marine.
