Musings on Dreamforge Games

Since I jilted GW due to the exorbitant price hikes last year, I've been looking for a new 28mm Sci-fi flame.  Now I can finally say I think I have found it in Dreamforge Games. If you don't know who DFG are, then look at this!  A 8.5 inch Leviathan....

I got to say I really like the ethos of this company and the fact it really is a one man band with the founder genius Mark Modragon. The models have been appealing to me for a while and I have even got my card out to order a Lethaithan Crusader but the one thing that has put me off was the fact all the minis are resin or pewter. Both are mediums I'm not the biggest fan off and certainly can't justify untill I have a few more models painted up.

Why bring this up you say if you are not going to buy them? Well I am and I have. I have just participated in Mark's latest Kickstater project to make these fantastic products PLASTIC… Yes that’s right plastic Lethiathans and that isn't the best bit. They will retail at around $90.00 USD or roughly £65.00 GBP!! That’s around 5 for the price of a warhound.   Even better they will also do a 15mm version standing in at 4.5inches.  Depending on how quickly Mark can design these products and the new scaleable game system this is the first company I really think could take on 40K. 

I just can't wait for my kits to get here and for a general release date to be announced…

I've been build up a few tanks for FoW.  They are from The Plastic Solider Company (PSC).

I'm building an 11th Armoured Division Squadron (British).  Gotta love the Charging Bull!!

First up are the British Shermans, two boxes of PSC kits are half the army (WooT?).  TBH if I had thought about this I should have saved some money and got a multi pack of 3.  So far got 5 bad boys (mostly) built, each tank took 20-30 minutes and as get get more practice i'm getting quicker.  The tank on the far left is a Firefly...

Next up are a box of Panzer IV's.  I'm building these for late war, Panzer IV - Ausf H, with Armoured Skirts (Schurzen) and 75mm Anti-tank gun (KwK 40 L/48 gun).  Four of these built so far.  I got to say these are more difficult than the Shermans as the tracks are a bit of a pain.  That said the detail is good and price is great.  Still two built in an 1 and half hours isn't bad.

Will probably get a few more boxes ot these when (if) I get them painted :)

All in all these are good value excellent little kits to bulk out your armies.  Looking forward to getting some Panthers, Half tracks and T34s....,  and infantry, guns heavy weapons etc...

Next up,  got some Revell Micro Wings 1/144 Stukas and Tyhpoons to play with!

Evil mages dungeon, Pt.1

This is my latest project, a fieldstone dungeon.

The corridors are a standard 2 tiles wide, to allow 50mm bases to move around. I intend to have a number of different interest peices like the on on the T-section to make it less boring.

Models eye view.

This is the first generic 4x4 tile room. Currently got beds, but this can be subsititued with other furniture/room dressing as required. I intend to have a number of different sized rooms. 4x4, 4x6, 6x6, 6x8 etc..., up to 10x12.

This last room is the bakery, I intend to have a number of themed rooms as well as the generic rooms. Others will be the prison, temple and throne room.

Red scorpions, mustering the forces

I've kicked off my Red Scorpions Army. I'm currently assembing the forces I have bought. All will have Forge World parts.

This is the start of some of the stuff I have assembled and undercoated or in painting. I have been working on Hirst Arts as well and i'll be posting pics of these soon.

Dreadnought of the 1st Company. Normal dread with Forgeworld brass etched sysmbols.
Veterans of the 1st Company. Beginings of the paint scheme on the bolter armed trooper.
3rd Tactical Squad, 4th Battle Company. Special weapon, melta gun. Heavy weapon, multi-melta. Sgt. with Plasma Pistol and Power Sword.
Demi Assault squad from the 8th Company. Not sure what number as yet. sgt. has a power fist and plasma pistol, one trooper has a plasma pistol.
A second demi Assault squad from the 8th Company. This time the sgt. has a power sword and plasma pistol. One trooper has a plasma pistol.

Hello again,

Been a little while since the last blog. Mainly because I was going stir crazy casting blocks. Because of this the Norman Keep is on hold for a little while.

However in my first post I put up some pictures of a command section of Flames of War Panzergrenadier. Actually, its a Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Company HQ. The kit contains three Sd Kfz 251/1 Half Tracks and three infantry stands. I thought to give me a break I would paint them.

Just for kicks, here is a StuG IV i'm working on too.

The colours are Flames Of War, Vallejo paints. Utility, German Infantry and German Armour paint sets. Camoflage pattern is based of a Konigstiger (King Tiger) pattern. My air brush isn't fine enough to paint this tanks, so had to improvise.
