Acastus Knight Porphyrion

Circumstances have forced me to work on my Knights of house Makabius again.  The driver for this is the new heavy knight.  It is a massive heavy beautiful kit, that has so many cleaver design cues, it really ties the lineage of Titans and knight firmly together.

I am gluing the legs with JB weld due to the weight.

What do you think about this kit? Are you getting one?

Magnus the Red, update

I've spent some of today painting the Crimson King.  I've been using the official painting video by GamesWorkshop, except I put on most of the armour before the video was released.  Body and wings done!

Are you getting Magus? Are you going to be paint using the official scheme or something different?

Happy Birthday To Me!

This week was my 40th day of life celebration.  My awesome family (Lady Hertford, the Girls, and my parents) bought me another Titan.

Better get cracking on them...

000489, not quite 500 Warlords yet.  But enough for two whole Primus Grade legions, and a Secondus Grade one to boot!  A rough estimate from Engine numbers (from TOC) suggests there are around 7000 Titans (500 Warlord, 2000 Reaver and about 4500 Warhounds though this assumes that Lucius and Mars pattern share a numbering series, it count be 1300 Scout Engines more) out there... Madness!

Lots of bits...

Auguries suggest this engine has crossed her tempest line in violation of the accords.

The name I'm thinking is Gustus Bilem, Taste of Bile.  Your thoughts?

Thousand Sons

I've built the first batch of the thousand sons.  All my Thousand Sons will have resin heads.

I have ten more heads, these will be autocannons and plasma squads.  I will pick up a dread or three at some point.

Building a Warlord Titan

I have made more progress on the Titan.  This is the obligatory clamped body shot...

The top carapace is still loose to allow clean up and more heat shaping.

Legio Custodes, Part One

This if the first post in yet another new Army I'm working on.  I was lucky (Stood outside for two hours freezing my blooming bottom off kind of lucky) enough to pick up a Caladis Grav-Tank.  I bathed it last night and assembled it tonight.  It is a lovely tank and Blake has done proud.  The only challenging point was inserting the rear engine.  A lot of excess resin had worked in the hole, this is more to do with the mold than the model though.

Sicaran for scale and to show the linage.

I will buy another.

I will buy a number of the speeder.

I will buy a number of the dreads.

All in all, I want this all in plastic!

Zone Mortalis, Part 3

Strike while the iron is hot as they say...

Printed a revised tile (mkIII).  Thoughts and comments?

On and Zzzzz, it's not a cat.  Bigger picture... (Note this is only the rear part)

Edit, started working with Lady Atia on a little project.  This is the first baby steps.

Zone Mortalis, Part Two

Some examples of the finish of 3D printed items.  The counter sunk holds didn't turn out right.  I think I need more squish, and yes that's actually the technical term!

100 internet points if you can guess the orange model!

Zone Mortalis, Part One

I've been working on some 3D zone mortalis files to print and here is what I have come up with so far.  It's a rough lay out to give you an idea what the parts will be like.  Once finalised, sub assemblies will be merged for printing.  The floor by the wall sections is in need of the most TLC.  I will be adding pipes to the tops of the wall sections and making removable door sections.

I'm leaving wall sections blank to glue GW and other vendor gubbins to the completed section.

I'm a while away from a test print, but I hope to have something ready soon.

What are your thoughts?

Tutorial, studded dreadnoughts

My dreads have studs.

In the comments the other day, Siph from the WeeMen asked for a tutorial on how to stud your dreads.  It's a simple process, the hardest part is finding the right pins!  It's a hang up from the old days when preheresy meant converting.

1) first you build the model in sub assemblies.  The key is keeping making sure you can access the locations you want studs on.  I have the body, left and right legs, and, left and right arms.  This tutorial is on the shoulders.

2) mark the dill points. The first one I did, I marked with pencil, then made a pilot hole with a knife.  Now days I'm all about the crazy mad knife skillz ;)

3) drill the holes.  You don't need to go all the way through the model, but it's easier the deeper the hole.

4) Select a pin.

5) cut the pin, I use a set of old sprue cutters.  Wire cutters would be better.  Note I hold the pointy bit and brace the end.  This stops it flying off and taking an eye out, or worse, losing the tiny bit of sharp metal!

6) Using tweezers and super glue, carefully stick in the hole prepared eariler.

Voila, one stud in, only forty left to do!

The Rout, Part V

So the Internet is alive with the sounds of dreadtober, so I thought I would build the second of my three dread Vlka Fenryka talon.  This and the third dread will be rocking the assault cannon/power fist combo.  This is more to do with saving money for the new prospero box rather than a love for the load out.

In keeping with my first dread, I've put studs on this dread.  I think these look great on the dreads, as I like to think the rout got these standard then customised them.  This particular dread has the front scroll work removed.  All told this took me about five hours, but to be honest, it would have been much quicker with a decent drill.

Unusually I drilled the exhausts prior to assembly!

On to the pictures!
